Trang pepper or Palian pepper is a native pepper species of Trang Province, traditionally grown over a century ago. In the past, Trang province used to be the cultivation area of Palian pepper. It has a spicy aroma, a unique peppery taste, and good quality. During the reign of Phraya Ratsada, it became an export product. Especially, people in European countries have known this kind of pepper as Trang Pepper
Trang pepper contains Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA) 14.88 mg/100 g., while other pepper species does not contain this saturated fatty acid. Therefore, it is the only pepper in Thailand that has properties to help dissolve blood clots in the brain. Meanwhile, myristic acid was also not found in Trang pepper. This property makes Trang pepper suitable for use as a drug ingredient to help lose weight as well.
